The Kwara State House of Assembly has condemned in totality admission of students for non-accredited courses in most of the state-owned tertiary institutions.
To this end, the House has mandated the Deputy Speaker, Elder Mathew Okedare and members of the Committee on Education and Human Capital Development, to meet with the Governor, Alhaji Abdul Fatah Ahmed, today, on the need for immediate release of the first trench of N450m in the 2018 Budget, towards accreditation of some courses in the affected tertiary institutions.
The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad gave this indication, while considering a Motion on Accreditation and Re-accreditation of courses in state owned tertiary institutions, sponsored by member representing Share/Oke-Ode Constituency, Hon Jimoh Akanni Abdul Rahman.
Dr. Ahmad who described the act as highly disturbing and unacceptable, pointed out that the House must find immediate and enduring solutions to the problem, in order not to mortgage the future of the younger generation of the State.
The Parliament according to the Speaker, equally resolved to conduct public hearing on the implications and way out of the problem, in the interest of the State.
Hon Abdul Rahman while raising the Motion, noted with displeasure that the sum of N695m will be required to provide accreditation requirements for the affected institutions, pointing out that development of any nation or state can only be measured by the quality of her education. The House unanimously agreed to be discussing the issue on a daily basis, until the matter is fully.
