Afon Community Commends Kwara Speaker on Road Construction

Indigenes of Afon Community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State have commended the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad for his efforts towards the on-going construction of Afon- Aboto -Oyo Boundary road.

The old and abandoned road project which links the affected community to Oyo state boundary, it would be recalled, was facilitated in the 2017 budget by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

The Community’s Secretary, Alhaji Idris Ayinla who led the delegation to the Speaker’s office on Monday said that every indigene of Afon appreciated Dr. Ali Ahmad’s gesture and would forever be grateful to him and the Senate President.

Ayinla said the road project when completed would ultimately fast track the community’s development and undoubtedly assist in boosting the state’s economy.

He regretted that before now, due to the road being in a state of disrepair, several casualties were recorded with some losing their lives while scores of others sustained various degrees of injuries in accidents.

The community scribe however appealed to the Speaker to further assist the people in order to have access to pipe borne water through the rehabilitation of Afon Water Works, lamenting that they have been finding it very difficult to get good pipe borne water.

In her remark, the immediate past Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Asa Local Government, Hajia Kehinde Baale called on the people of the State, to continue to support government in the task of making democracy meaningful to Nigerians, stressing that government can only succeed in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and acrimony.

Responding, the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad who also hailed the community for being appreciative stressed that he was delighted Allah used him to push for the road inclusion among others that are given consideration through the intervention of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Ahmad said it was possible through Federal Government intervention as the state government was already constructing several roads in the state and might have been difficult to attend to the road in 2017.

The Speaker who described Afon as the cradle of Saraki’s political dynasty, enjoined the people of the state to continue to support the APC led government, stressing that the Kwara state, had a lot to gain from Dr. Saraki’s Senate Presidency.

He pledged on behalf of the House to ensure the total rehabilitation of Afon and Oyun water works, which according to him have been captured in the state 2017 budget.
